Update History for QS version 6

V6.3 was the original released 2006 Version of QS. Changes made since then:

V6.4 Fixed problem with HiPtAve or Cox-Sprague Series when DSQ is not allowed to be thrown out

V6.5 Added capability to recalculate all races in a series with one mouse click.

V6.6 When Time-On-Distance scoring was used, the distance was not shown on printout - fixed.

V6.7 Somehow (never determined) the record count for the registration database ocasionally did not show the correct number of boats. This caused problems when printing boat data. Problem fixed by changing the method used to determine the number of records in the database.

V6.9 fixes two problems:

1. The Rescore All function only rescored the first 9 races, now does all races.

2. If there was no sail number when a new boat was added to the Enter All boat data screen, the program crashed. Now gives warning message and puts 9999999 in as sail number.

V6.13 Fixed a throwout problem with boats marked as ncA.

V6.14 Fixed a DNS calculation problem in Series Score when the High Point Average scoring system is used

V6.15 Changed File Merge Function:

1. Fixed a problem that sometimes caused duplicate entries when the a merge file was merged multiple times

2. Change the File Merge function so that if bow numbers have been added to an already merged file when the file is merged again the bow numbers will be added to the database.

3. Changed the File Merge function so registration data exported by Regatta Manager can be imported to QS using the File Merge function.

V6.16 Added following features:

1. Makes Series Print Screen similar to Race Results print screen so one can select and create series formats from the Print Screen

2. Added a Bow number column to Key Boat Data which makes it easier to add and check bow number assignments

3. Provides Race Result Print Option to show DNC boats on the Race Result printout.

4. Provides a method to shorten a Pursuit Race.

V6.17

1. Changed the Series Result format so that when a race is thrown out it still shows cause of penalty

2. Selecting Hints On/Off in the Help menu will be remembered for the race series

3. There has been a rare problem of unknown cause that prevents the program from displaying or printing boat or results data. In this version the problem is detected and instructions provided on how to fix it.

V6.20

When Race Result Format was set to show DNC boats it always forced Landscape format - fixed
If a boat was marked as AVE but the boat had no actual finishes program crashed - fixed
When doing a .CSV merge, if the header title is a space caused a problem - fixed
There was a problem with the Sail Compare function in a .CSV merge - fixed

If you have both bow numbers and Sail Numbers in the database, the bow numbers are used by default in the Finish Time Screen. If you add an 8 as a suffix to the Registration Number it will force the finish time screen to use the Sail Number instead of Bow Number.

If you scored a long distance race that went over several days, you may get some boats that have corrected time of more than 100 hours and some that have corrected time of less than 100 hours. The program ranked the 100 hour finishers above the others - this has been fixed

V6.21

Version 6.20 has 3 problems fixed by 6.21

1. When a boat was scored RAF under some conditions it that race would not display in the series result but the total points was correct. This is fixed in this update.

2. When the Seconds behind Leader was used in the race results format the seconds show are obviously wrong. This is fixed

3. The Race Results would switch from Protrait to Landscape mode earlier than necessary. This is fixed on this update

V6.23

Fixed a problem when changing data in Add/Edit All Boat Data. If a change was made and saved and then the same boat data was immediately changed and saved again it would creat a second version of the boat in place of an existing boat.

The first time that Key boat data was selected after a boat had been added in the Add/Edit All Boat Data screen the sail number sort would not put the new boat in the correct sail number sequence. Fixed

The program would crash if an invalid finish time is entered and Accept/View was clicked Fixed

V6.24

The auto entry of one design finish times used to add one minute to the prior time. This could cause a problem if one made a correction during the entering of finish times and didn't notice that the new finish times were based on the correct finish time. The auto entry of the one design finish times now is one minute greater than the current maximum finish time.

Users sometimes manually enter DXX values in the Finish Time screen instead of using the DXX buttons to select the value. The program now checks that the DXX code is a valid code.

QS is supposed to be able handle 20 divisions but in fact only handled 19 divisions. It now will handle 20 divisions.

Under certain conditions, the rare event of exactly the same corrected times in different divisions caused a problem. This problem has been fixed.

When a Hi point system is used for series scoring, the series result printout shows the Rank for each race in the series. Sometimes it is desirable to show the points for each race instead of rank. There is now a check box on the Series Calculate screen that allows a user to see points instead of rank.

DGM - Disqualification for Gross Misconduct is now a valid DXX code.

If on the Display / Print Boat Data screen the Group by Division box is NOT checked and if some boats are marked Selected and some are Not Selected it showed the Selected and Not Selected boats in separate groups. This has been fixed so that All boats will be shown regardless of whether they are selected or not  - unless of course the check box "Show Only Boats Marked X in Select Field" is checked.

When entering Start Times on the Race Header screen, it has only allowed the start time to be entered as HHMM. There is now a check box on the Race Header screen that allows one to enter start times as HHMMSS.

The values of A and B used by the PHRF-LO time on time conversion method have changed.

V6.25 3/31/2009

This update only affects PHRF-LO users who submit the .CSV files created by QS to PHRF-LO for use in their analysis program and users who score using the High Point method - it improves the Series Format.

V6.26  4/20/2009

This update fixes a problem caused by having 2 boats in different divisions or different overall groups with the same exact corrected time.

V.27   5/29/2009

Under certain conditions when a QS .mdb database is merged into an existing QS database a problem is caused in the database that causes strange results. This has been fixed

When Lake Ontario 2009 is selected as the Time on Time conversion method in Race Configuration then when one returns to Race Configuration it shows use TT A and B Values with the A and B values set to the values forLake Ontario 2009 scoring. The program scores correctly but it can be confusing. With this update if you select Lake Ontario 2009 and then return Race Configuration the Lake Ontario 2009 button is high lighted.

There was a possibility with older versions of the program that one could select location of the current .MDB database file as the backup location. This would relabel the existing file as xxxx old qs.mdb and then when it tried to copy the existing .mdb it can't find it and crashes. This version of QS will not allow you to select the current scoring folder as the backup folder.

V.29 10/13/09

Option for Series results to show decimals in individual race results. In the past on the Series result the individual race showed only integer but the Series Points show decimals

AVE score is rounded to nearest tenth to comply with RRS.

In the past to break ties you had to click 2 buttons for each tie. These buttons now can be push by simply hitting Enter.

Most regattas I score want the posted results to be marked Preliminary or Provisional until all protests are heard. I got tired of  hand writing this or exporting to Word and adding it, so now when you print results there is an option to print Preliminary, Provisional or Final at the top of the page.

If a boat is scored and then the finish time is deleted it would sometimes leave the corrected time and elapsed time in the file so that they would show on the printout. This is fixed

V.30 1/2/10

When RDG was used when there was a finish time for the boat, other boat ranks were allowed to change this is wrong per the RRS. This has been fixed.

A button has been added to the Series Result Print Screen which creates a .CSV file of the series results. This allows the Series Results to be easily shown in a spread sheet.

The program has been changed so that up to 99 races may be scored scored in a series. When there are more than 40 races the .CSV  file above is the only way to show the results.

If Break Ties button on the Series Result Print Screen is clicked when there are no ties, the program would crash. This is fixed

When setting up Pursuit Race Start Times the program no allows you to use selected boats from the database instead of All boats in the database

V.31 4/12/10
Updates the Lake Ontario PHRF TOT calculation to the 2010 numbers

V.33 7/2/10
Fixes problem which sometimes prevents AVE score from being thrown out.

When DNC is based on number of starters, DNC is calculated when Race Result is calculated and DNC boats show on Printout. The Do not show DNC check box on the Create Race Result Format Screen will prenvent the DNC boats from being shown on the race result printout but they will show with correct score on the series result screen.

Some label backgrounds show black when using Windows 7 - fixed

Allows Create Series Format to select rate1 as one of the columns to show

Fixes Label on Race Configuration screen  so it shows PHRF of Lake Ontario 2010 instead of 2009

V.36 2/24/11

Allows a .txt or .csv file with race finish sequence to be uploaded to the Header screen for scoring a race. For one design file - use Sail or Bow number in finish sequence. For Handicap race file use sail or bow number and finish time in HHMMSS format

Provides an option to show either rank or pts in High Point, High Point Ave or Cox-Sprague series results.

Shows throwouts for High Point Ave or Cox-Sprague when throwout is a race not sailed

Shows r in the series result for boats scored RDG

Fixes a problem which sometimes caused the rank shown for a throwout to be incorrect.

Fixes problem when switching series scoring systems.

Show Series scoring method on series printout

Fixed a problem when 1st counts 0.75 and there is a tie for first.

V.37 6/14/11

Allows Crew names to entered into Comment 1 on the Add/Edit Boat Data screen and then  be shown on the Series Result screen

Fixes a problem in Staggered Start (Pursuit Race) function

V.38 7/1/11

Allows Crew names to entered into Comment 1 on the Add/Edit Boat Data screen and then  be shown on the Race Result report as well as on the Series Result report

Fixes another problem in Staggered Start (Pursuit Race) function

Fixes a potential problem with the Division Count function

V.40 8/4/11

Fixes a problem with race results showing overall results - problem created in Ver 6.38

Provides a method of adding up to three club or sponsor icons to the Race and Series Results form.

If a division doesn't participate in a race of a series the overall results show each boat in the division as DNC with overall DNC points

A problem for me but probably not for many users is that when the race results files xxx.01, xxx.02 etc are emailed, the email software often converts the lines of text to a UNIX format (line ends in LF) instead MS format (line ends in CR LF). I have changed the program so it will accept either format. Now emailed filed don't have to be run thru conversion software before they can be used by QS

Whenever the program is exited it asks if Event files should be saved. If YES is selected files are saved in a Backup Folder in the in the same folder as the event files. The last 2 backups are saved.

A Pursuit Race is scored as a One Design Race. The program now identifies Pursuit Race on the boat data and results forms.

If you create series results as a .CSV file, you are asked where you want to save it.

Each time a Report is generated a temp file is left on the Root Directory. The program will now remove the temp file when QS is closed.

Having 2 copies of QS open can cause problems. The program now warns if you open QS while a copy of QS is already running
